For YEARS I have been trying to perfect my mesh fly veil (and actually non mesh versions, too, now I come to think of it).
It might seem a bit ridiculous because they're kind of small and simple-looking, right? The problem is that I'm not a pattern maker by trade and I've been attempting to draft the pattern mostly by myself. I have a LOVELY pattern maker who I've been working with for years, who has done the lion's share of the pattern making, but she lives a bit of a distance away and - since I don't have the horses where my machines are - it's tricky to make the tweaks needed to get the drape and curves, ear shape, ear width, height, space between ears, amount of fabric to sit behind anatomical headpieces and so on and so on right.
After starting DRYVIS earlier this year, I decided to go for it again and hope that 2026 is the year I finally get the fly veils finalised. Again, I've got a bit closer but I'm still not quite there. And it is seriously frustrating, I tell you.
I've been working on the pattern again this week and have yet another sample to try on and ride in ASAP. Maybe tomorrow. The latest issue I have is a poor elderly horse with arthritis who doesn't really want to be ridden, plus a youngster with crazy separation anxiety and no horses turned out next to the youngster so I can ride my other horse. Oh, and the crazy scorching heat we're having right now, which I just can't bear to ride in.
So I'm in a bit of a pickle.
But let's see how the next trying on session goes. Everything crossed as usual. I remain resolutely determined and WILL get there in the end, no matter how long it takes.
